How this page is built
The ballot roster is primary-sourced. Every race links to the state election authority's own certified candidate list. Who is on the ballot is a fact the state publishes, so that is where it is read from — not from a wire round-up.
Every claim carries its own link and date. A candidate's position is a claim someone may repeat at a hearing or in a letter, so it ships with the source that backs it and the date we read it.
Silence is disclosed, never scored. “Lean” summarises only the cited items below it, on one axis: does this candidate's documented position make data centers pay their own way and give the host community a say? It is not an overall rating, not a grade, and not an endorsement. Candidates with no located record are left unscored.
This is not the officials scorecard. The A–F scorecard grades sitting officials on roll-call votes and signed laws. Most people here are challengers whose whole record is a campaign statement — much weaker evidence. A press release is a promise, not an action, and this page will not launder one into the other, which is why nobody here gets a letter grade.
Tech & utility campaign money
Where a money line appears under a candidate, it counts committee (PAC)
receipts reported to the FEC whose contributing-committee name matches a
published term list — the list ships in
scripts/fetch_senate_money.py, and every matched committee is
written into the data file, so any figure here can be audited back to the
committees behind it. It undercounts by design: individual
contributions from company employees are not included, because the FEC
publishes no reliable employer-to-industry rollup. Read any total as a
floor. Figures quoted inside a candidate's record items above come from the
linked reporting instead, and are attributed there.

The ballot roster is read from each state's own certified candidate list and is solid; the AI/data-center records are not evenly covered. Most filed candidates have no located record and are shown as such rather than as neutral. Rosters also still move — a pending primary, a withdrawal, or a court ruling can change the field, so check the race's linked state candidate list before quoting a name.
